A refuge made of rough material also makes entering and exiting easier. **What’s the difference between nesting and roosting from a bird’s standpoint? A nesting box, bird house, or even an open nest on a tree or bush is a bird’s first “home”. But, don’t think of it in human terms. Birds use a nest strictly for laying eggs and rearing young. Once the young birds fledge or leave the nest, they do not return to it. They go off into the woods, foraging and learning the ropes.
